About

Hi, I’m Ann Walter, a Registered Clinical Counsellor who works with youth (14+) and parents.

I believe that a collaborative counselling relationship can help people navigate the inevitable challenges of life. In our sessions you bring the knowledge of your own life experience and I bring the knowledge of transformative conversations. Together we collaborate and develop a personalized approach that works for you.

I enjoy a deep connection with nature which helps me understand that we all exist in a series of systems – systems within ourselves, our families, communities and the larger world around us. This systems-thinking approach brings a unique perspective to how my clients see themselves, how they see their relationships and how they see the larger world around them.

I’m a parent to a delightful 10 year old and live in a vibrant, blended-family home. I’m very grateful to be able to live here and experience the beauty of this place with my family, friends and two pups.

I have a Masters of Counselling degree from City University and I’m currently completing a two-year somatic attachment training program. I have explored nature-based therapy training and using the polyvagal theory in therapy.

I practice counselling from an inclusive perspective and am aware of my intersections of identity and how they might influence the way that I work. I strive to work in an antiracist and decolonizing way and seek to disrupt, even in small ways, the entrenched and damaging systems in which we find ourselves. Everyone is welcome here.

I live, work and benefit from being on the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Esquimalt, and Songhees), Malahat, Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) peoples. As a settler and uninvited guest on these lands, I aim to learn about the ongoing history of colonization and the resulting harms that have been perpetrated against Indigenous peoples. I am also learning about the rich history of reciprocity, stewardship and care of both the land and people that has been ongoing in many forms since time immemorial.

Many people are juggling their own stuff while trying to show up for their families. At Ann Walter Counselling we work together to create a safe space, so you can explore your relationships with yourself, your family, and the wider world.
